Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)This Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program aims to provide well qualified academics, business executives and professionals in overseas countries the opportunity to study a PhD program in their own countries. This PhD degree is offered by overseas institutions/universities in association with NAIST. The dissertation will be sent to examiners and the qualification will be issued by the overseas institution/university in association with NAIST. Since this high quality PhD program is not designed for the Australian market, it is not accredited in Australia. Rather, this prestigious PhD course is specifically designed for overseas students. Course Structure & Duration: This course, which requires satisfactory completion of the following two units plus a dissertation, can be completed in 3-4 years. DSP 701 Research Methodology and Analysis I DSP 702 Research Methodology and Analysis II DSP 780 PhD Dissertation For the PhD Dissertation to be classified as PASSED, it must: 1. Contribute to the existing body of knowledge. 2. Be passed by the examiners. Part of the dissertation must also be accepted for publication as an article in a refereed journal during the student’s candidacy. If a student, during candidacy, publishes three or more articles in refereed journals from his or her dissertation, the dissertation will be PASSED WITH DISTINCTION. Entry Requirements: Admission into this PhD program is open to anyone with a recognized Bachelor degree (with Honours) or any one with a recognized Master degree. An applicant with a recognized Bachelor degree but without an honours qualification and without a Master degree can study the MBA program which will qualify the applicant for admission into the PhD program. Mode of Study: The various modes of study available are:
Full time - PhD students who in addition to consulting their supervisors through faxes, e-mail, telephone and who also have face to face consultation with their supervisors and who plan to complete the course in a minimum of three years are classified as full time students.
Part time - PhD students who in addition to consulting their supervisors through faxes, e-mail, telephone but also have limited face to face consultation with their supervisors and who plan to take more than a minimum of 3 years to complete the course are classified as part time students.
Distance Learning - PhD students who do not have any face to face consultation with their supervisors but mainly consult their supervisors by faxes, e-mail and telephone and who plan to take more than a minimum of 3 years to complete the course are classified as Distance Learning Students.
Teaching Methods and Supervision: Regarding
the units covered in this PhD program, students are provided with
Study Guides that outline each topic and direct students to relevant reading

Enrolment Periods: There are four enrolment periods per year. Each year is divided into 4 semesters and each semester is 12 weeks duration. Although students can commence study in the 1st week of March, June, September or December of every year, Ph D students can apply to commence study at any time. Tuition Fees: Tuition fees are set by the overseas local institution in consultation with NAIST but should normally not exceed four thousand and five hundred Australian dollars (AUD4, 500) per year. The course is a three year program for full time students. Scholarships and/or subsidies are also available to students depending on their circumstances and academic record.
